Arkansas Child Visitation Rights

Child visitation is an agreement regarding when and where the non-custodial parent can see his or her child. Trying to set up child visitation rights is an extremely difficult process. Being angry, frustrated, and stressed about child visitation rights and the court process is not unusual. We are passionate advocates for our clients. We understand how important it is for them to spend time with their kids and provide for their needs. We put forth a lot of time to ease our clients’ concerns by making sure they are actively involved in the decisions made on their behalf. We excel at resolving our clients’ child visitation issues in an effective manner.

Arkansas Court Considerations When Assessing Child Visitation Rights

The Arkansas courts do not favor either parent based on gender when deciding how to designate child custody and visitation. The financial resources of either parent are usually not a factor either since both parents are responsible for contributing to the child’s expenses. Due to the difficulties often associated with creating joint custody arrangements, the courts may prefer to grant one parent with primary custody while the other parent gets visitation rights.

Unless there is evidence of abuse within the family, the courts believe it is in the best interests of the child to have frequent contact with both parents. The court may consider the child’s preferences while deliberating over custody. The court also has the discretion to grant visitation rights to siblings and grandparents if it is perceived to benefit the child’s welfare and emotional well-being.

Child Visitation Schedules and Arrangements

Attempts are made to accommodate both parents when setting up child visitation schedules. The visitation schedules created through mutual agreement by the parents or by the judge are different for each family. Basic information that should be included in any visitation schedule includes:

  • The child’s school schedule
  • The child’s extracurricular activities
  • Vacation time
  • When and where the child will be picked up and dropped off by each parent
